An online accounting class has been added to the salary range of online accountants.
The National Association of Accountants said the fee was part of a $1.1 billion online accounting boost.
It said the new salary range, which was introduced in February, was an effort to encourage the number of online accounting students to rise.
It added the new online classes were not available to accountants from overseas.
Mr Turnbull said it was important to continue the growth of online jobs, particularly to attract more international graduates.
“Australia is a very attractive place to do the work of an accountant,” he said.
“It’s very attractive to do a business, to be able to work from home and get paid well.”
But Mr Turnbull warned that online jobs could be difficult to find.
“We don’t want to discourage the business from being in the business,” he told reporters.
“There are many, many more ways to get paid online.
But there’s also another option, which is, you can actually look into a local accountant.”
The Australian Council of Accountancy (ACAC) said it had been involved in a consultation process on the new pay, with the public hearing due to take place in November.
“This is part of our ongoing efforts to get the Australian economy growing, to bring more Australians into the workforce,” ACAC chief executive officer Andrew Hargreaves said.
