Microsoft is reportedly working on a new version of its Windows platform that would offer more powerful tools for developers, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The company is reportedly also working on an alternative to the Microsoft Azure cloud service for developers that would be used by third-party software developers and services.
A Microsoft spokesperson told the WSJ that the company is not making these claims, and that the technology in the new version would be “built around” the Azure platform, rather than being a separate product.
The Journal notes that Microsoft’s efforts to build new software for developers have been met with skepticism.
Microsoft has also been pushing a new mobile operating system called Windows Mobile 8 that was announced in January.
The new Windows 10 Mobile platform, which will likely launch in October, will be more broadly available than the Windows Mobile 9 platform that debuted earlier this year.
